Business Continuity – A Pratical Process

Objective:

  • Understanding of the concept of Business Continuity in the broader context of Enterprise Risk Management
  • Understanding of the business process adopted in effective business continuity practice
  • Ability to assess one’s own organisation from a business continuity perspective
  • Ability to identify appropriate interventions in one’s own organisation in order to effectively prepare for disasters,
    minimise disruption and ensure the survival of the organisation

Approach:

  • Highly practical and participative
  • Participants will be given a case study prior to the workshop in order to enable them to prepare appropriately
  • Participants will work on the case study individually and in syndicate groups
  • The focus is on the practical application of the theoretical concepts of disaster management and business continuity.

    - Identifying mission critical activities (MCAs)

  • Risk Determination and Evaluation:
    - Identifying MCAs at greatest risk
    - Assessing potential impacts, exposures and probabilities
    - Develop Overall Strategy
    - Develop Functional Area Strategies
  • Developing an emergency response plan
  • Developing a crisis management plan and communications protocol
  • Business Recovery
    - Identifying minimum resource requirements to provide minimum acceptable service levels
  • Measures to mitigate and control risk
    - Measures for funding and transferring risk
    - Developing a business continuity strategy to maximise operational resilience
    - Implementing a risk management control programme
